Washington Days 2007 recap...

Saturday I attended my first Washington Days. I had a very good time and I learned a few things too. I didn't know that many people except for those I had met at the 2nd District meeting. I sat in the third row during the State Committee meeting where the Kansas State Democratic Party officers were re-elected unanimously. In the first row right in front of me sat Governor Kathleen Sebelius, Lt. Governor Mark Parkinson and Attorney General Paul Morrison.
While it was a very upbeat day full of caucus and district meetings, everyone realizes that we're going to have to work even harder to succeed in 2008.

2nd District Meeting Recap

It was a pretty good turnout for a cold Saturday morning. Nancy Boyda was unable to attend but her husband, Steve made it. We organized by caucus: North, South and Shawnee and chose delegates and alternates for each county who will attend and be part of the state committee meeting at Washington Days in Topeka early next month. Kansas Senator Anthony Hensley also spoke about the importance of increasing our numbers in the legislature in 2008 and said how big a part Pottawatomie County plays.
Attorney General Paul Morrison was also a speaker. He talked about the new job and his immediate goals as well as those for the coming months and years.
I noticed that former President Bill Clinton will be the special guest at Washington Days this year. I had a feeling that was the case since he was giving the Landon Lecture at K-State that same day. Should be a big weekend in just a few short weeks.

2nd District Reorganization Meeting

If you live in the 2nd Congressional District of Kansas and will be in the area, come to the Reorganization meeting on Saturday, February 3, 2007 at Jayhawk Tower in Topeka. Special guest will be none other than Nancy Boyda and her husband, Steve. The meeting starts at 10:00 am and later that afternoon will be a reception at Nancy's local office just a few blocks away. I'm sure there will be other elected officials in attendance so it should be a good time.

Democrats take the reins in D.C.

Another story about yesterday's events from the Lawrence Journal-World that includes pictures of Nancy and Nancy (Pelosi) and other elected officials from Kansas. Of local interest is Nancy Boyda's stepgranddaugther, Paige, from Wamego.

It's official: She's Rep. Boyda

Today's Capital-Journal has the details of yesterday's official ceremony and what's next for the new Representative of the 2nd district of Kansas. I watched some of the coverage on C-SPAN and I'm really excited about the Democrat's new direction for America.

Sorry it's been a while since I last posted and I'll try to do a better job of that and hopefully there will be more to write once the Kansas Legislature is in full session.
